Christchurch

This powder room began as a cramped space under the stairs. Taylormade Building opened the existing GIB ceiling into the void above, and the least considered room in the house became one of its most memorable.

Mr B Studio lined it full height in Noir Bandsawn. Light washes up and down the boards, catching every saw mark so the texture catches your eye. The light line sits at 2.2 metres, where one board length meets the next, so the join disappears and the walls rise as a single dark surface.

Stone and beautiful fittings answer the raw grain with polish. A small room given the care usually saved for the main spaces, it now carries a sense of occasion well beyond its size.
