Moisture and NZBC Clause E3
Flooring & Walls and Ceilings products were tested to ISO 4760:2022(E), modified, which measures topical moisture resistance across an assembled joint. A dye solution was held over the joint for 24 hours at 20°C and 65% relative humidity.
Both passed at Grade 1, no change, the top of the scale. Wet swell measured 0.05 to 0.14mm, recovering to 0.01 to 0.03mm, with no migration of water to the underside of any specimen.

Our Alternative Solution Statement for NZBC Clause E3 sets out the full test data, the method and the scope, and is published on our Resources page. We do not recommend engineered oak on a bathroom floor, and showers and any area subject to standing water sit outside it entirely.
Reaction to fire
The flooring was tested by CSIRO to AS ISO 9239.1 and returned a critical radiant flux of 5.0 kW/m². That is the measure that applies to a floor covering, and the report is published in full.
For wall and ceiling linings, our manufacturer's technical specification records Group 3 with the standard coating and Group 1-S with an intumescent coating such as Firezone 92. Confirm the group number your occupancy requires with your fire engineer, and specify the coating at the outset.
Indoor environment quality
Relevant to Homestar and Green Star indoor environment quality credits:
- Volatile organic compound emissions tested to CDPH Standard Method V1.2, with the full report published rather than a summary of it
- Formaldehyde emission class E1, measured at 0.69 mg/L against the GB 18580 limit of 1.5 mg/L in our manufacturer's batch inspection of January 2026
- The coating has been tested separately by SGS. A GB 18581-2020 assessment measured VOC content at 24 g/L against a 420 g/L limit, with benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, xylene, methanol, halogenated hydrocarbons and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons all not detected. An EU RoHS assessment found no lead, mercury, cadmium, hexavalent chromium, PBBs, PBDEs or restricted phthalates. Both cover the coating as supplied and not the finished floor, and neither is downloadable here, because they are our supplier's documents
Responsible sourcing
Our engineered oak flooring is manufactured by an FSC Chain of Custody certified producer and supplied as an FSC 100% certified product.

A note on comparison
Life cycle standards require products to be compared on the same functional unit over the same reference study period. Comparing single square metres of products with different service lives will not give a meaningful result. The argument is set out in full in our whole-of-life carbon analysis.
