What Canterbury does to a timber floor

Canterbury swings hard. Dry nor'westers, cold still winters and heat-pump-dry interiors move humidity a long way in both directions across a year, and a wide board feels every bit of it.

That is why our boards are 20mm engineered rather than solid, and why we ask for a moisture reading rather than a guess before anything is laid. On post-quake builds over concrete slabs we recommend a vapour barrier as a matter of course. On a suspended timber floor, subfloor ventilation matters more than the board you choose.
