The studio is finished in La Forêt Oak throughout, floor, stair and wall, so a single colour can be seen resolving across every surface rather than imagined from a sample.

What Central Otago does to a timber floor

Central Otago puts a timber floor through a lot. Humidity can swing from very dry in a schist-cold winter with the fire going to high in a wet spring, and a wide board moves with it.

That is why we ask for acclimatisation on site rather than a delivery straight into a build, and why substrate moisture is worth confirming rather than assuming. Laid to guideline, our boards go in without a perimeter expansion gap, so the work that decides the outcome happens before the first board goes down. On alpine builds with underfloor heating over slab, the commissioning cycle matters as much as the board.
