Nestled in the remnants of old flower gardens and surrounded by dense native bush, Te Wao House is designed to feel deeply connected to its natural environment. Expansive glazing draws the outdoors in, framing sun-drenched treetops by day and the still, shadowed canopy by night. Every level of this multi-storey family home is oriented to capture light, privacy, and the ever-changing tones of the surrounding landscape.

Functionality was equally important — the home needed to perform as beautifully as it looks. With family life at its core, durable surfaces and protective finishes were key considerations. The chosen flooring brings warmth and practicality underfoot, offering a seamless transition between living spaces while standing up to the rigours of daily life.

Te Wao House balances modern architecture with the calm of nature — a home that breathes with its surroundings, where the boundary between bush and home gently dissolves.

Picasso Oak, a light, natural European oak that perfectly complements the surrounding bushland. Its soft, neutral tones bring a sense of calm and warmth to the interior, creating a seamless visual connection between the home and its natural environment.

The subtle variation and authentic grain of Picasso Oak echo the textures of the native landscape, grounding the modern architecture in a timeless, organic aesthetic that feels both refined and deeply rooted in place.
