Engineered timber flooring in New Zealand
Twelve colours of engineered European oak flooring, on a 20mm board with a 6mm solid oak wear layer. One rate across the range, so colour is a design decision rather than a budget one. Every board is FSC 100% certified as standard and carries a 25-year residential and 5-year commercial warranty.
Most timber flooring sold in New Zealand is engineered rather than solid, and for good reason. A cross-laminated core holds its dimension through our humidity swings, lays directly over a concrete slab and takes underfloor heating without cupping. It is why engineered wood flooring has replaced solid boards in most New Zealand specifications, and what makes a wide 240mm oak board viable here at all.
What to look for in an engineered oak floor
The differences that matter are inside the board, where a showroom sample cannot show them. The wear layer decides how long the floor lasts: a 2mm to 4mm oak face allows one sand at most, while a 6mm face allows four or five, so the floor is refinished over decades rather than replaced. The board thickness decides how it feels: a 20mm board glued down to the substrate is solid and quiet underfoot, where a 14mm board floated on underlay can sound hollow and creak at the joints. The core decides stability: cross-bonded eucalyptus ply moves less than an aligned-grain softwood core. The finish decides what happens on site. Marchand boards arrive with nine factory coats of Treffert UV matt lacquer, so nothing is applied in the house and the floor is walked on the day the weights come off.
Boards are 2200mm long and 240mm wide, Prime grade European oak, laid glue-down with no expansion gaps, and available as straight-lay plank, herringbone, wall and ceiling board and stair nosing in the same colour and finish. Lune oak through a house of schist and cedar
Cedar cladding and local schist carry from the exterior into the interior, and the oak is what holds the two together. Lune runs continuously through the kitchen, living and bedroom spaces in a single colour.

Smoking the oak first, then pre-colouring it, gives a depth that a surface stain cannot reach. Against black cabinetry and stone the floor reads soft rather than flat, and shifts through the day as the skylights move.

Every colour in the range (except Vuitton) is finished in nine coats of UV lacquer. This ensures the European Oak stands up to the NZ climate.

A 20mm board with a 6mm wear layer, refinished every ten to fifteen years in busy areas, lasts the life of the house. A thin-veneer board that cannot be sanded is typically replaced within fifteen to twenty years.
