Homes don't need bold statements, they simply need the right foundation.
For this Northland renovation, Marchand La Forêt European Oak set the tone for a home inspired by the warmth and optimism of mid-century design. Its softly smoked, earthy character brings depth without heaviness, creating a natural connection between timber, textiles, and the surrounding landscape.
Designer Kerryn Dunshea has embraced the hallmarks of mid-century interiors: clean lines, sculptural forms, honest materials, and carefully considered moments of colour. Rich walnut furniture, textured olive upholstery, and warm metallic accents sit effortlessly against the natural grain of the oak, creating spaces that feel timeless rather than trend-driven.
The kitchen introduces a playful nod to the era with Resene Double Lemongrass cabinetry. The muted green hue feels both nostalgic and contemporary, pairing beautifully with the warmth of La Forêt and reflecting the lush Northland environment beyond the walls.
Above the dining table, the sculptural pendant by Nightworks Studio collab'd with David Shaw acts as a piece of functional art. Its flowing organic form captures the spirit of mid-century design, where craftsmanship and artistry were integral to everyday living.
Throughout the renovation, the beauty lies in the balance. Natural oak underfoot, expressive furniture, soft curves, and understated colour work together to create a home that feels grounded, welcoming, and designed to be lived in for generations.
