Maintaining the Beauty is Simple!

Regular cleaning is key. Here's a weekly routine to keep your floors looking their best:

  • Vacuum: Use a soft-bristle attachment to remove dust, sand, and debris. Ensure clean, free-rolling wheels to avoid scratches.

  • Mop: Use a microfiber pad with a wood floor cleaner suitable for your floor's finish. Wipe with the grain, then dry with the mop until almost no moisture remains. Always use wood floor-specific products. We recommend Bona Floorcare range available from a number of hardware shops throughout NZ.

Tips for Optimal Results:

  • Sweep, mop with an anti-static cloth, or vacuum frequently.

  • Use only wood floor cleaners to avoid residue or dulling the finish.

  • Avoid soaking the floor; it should dry within 2-3 minutes.

  • Use a damp, not wet, mop or cloth. Skip the steam mop.

  • Wash microfiber mop pads regularly for better cleaning.

Deep Cleaning (Every 2-4 Years):

For a deeper clean, consider hiring a professional with a wood floor scrubber to remove dirt and grime missed by regular cleaning. This keeps your floors looking fantastic for years to come.

Coating Refurbishment (Every 10+ Years):

Over time, the protective coating may show wear. Here's how to address it:

  • Light Sanding: For minor scratches, a professional can lightly sand followed by a high-quality, matte finish for renewed protection.

  • Full Sand and Recoat: For discolored, deeply scratched, or dull floors, a complete refinishing may be needed. Professionals can sand it back to bare wood, re-stain (if desired), and apply a new protective coating.

Maintaining a Stable Climate:

Timber flooring reacts to its surroundings. Ideally, maintain a relative humidity between 40% and 60%. A dehumidifier or humidifier may be necessary. Keep the temperature between 16°C and 27°C.

Protecting Against Sun and UV Exposure:

Direct sunlight can cause excessive heat, fading, and warping. Utilize UV-protected windows, blinds, or curtains. Avoid placing rugs for the first 3 months to allow even color development. Regularly move rugs and furniture to minimize uneven color variations.

Everyday Care Tips:

  • Prevent Scratches: Lift furniture, use felt pads, and avoid shoes with sharp objects.

  • Minimize Moisture Damage: Clean spills promptly, address leaks immediately, and use breathable mats at entrances.

  • Control Pet Damage: Keep pet nails trimmed and use mats at pet entry points.

Holiday Homes and Bach's:

For vacant periods, consider a local caretaker to manage humidity and ventilation. Portable humidifiers or HRV systems can help maintain proper moisture levels.

By following these simple guidelines, you can ensure your Marchand engineered oak floors remain a beautiful and enjoyable feature of your home for years to come.
